International Relations & Music Association
IRMA is an areligious and apolitical non-profit that promotes positive social change and development in Switzerland and underserved regions abroad. Its mission is to support the most disadvantaged by using music and the arts as means of action.
We believe that music can inspire people to enact positive change
- Music triggers emotions that can prompt people to act
- Learning to play music means acquiring knowledge and skills that can be leveraged in other areas of life
- Musician is a job, a social status, and a facet of one's identity on which to rely when everything else is in jeopardy
We invite people to exchange skills in order to grow
IRMA designs (educational) programmes, projects, and activities aimed at tackling social issues. We support like-minded organisations and benefit from their experience and network. We produce research. We build networks so project participants and partners can learn from each other over the long term.
IRMA is part of an emerging field in which music is used as a social agent. IRMA benefits from the unique skillsets of its members (music and music production, audio engineering, sociology, political science, global politics and security, communication, etc.).

We believe in, promote, and invest in the following approaches to reach our objectives
- Academic research, for there is no better alternative to understand the world and tackle its many urgent problems.
- Cultural participation, for its capacity to foster social inclusion and skills development.
- Education, for we understand life as an opportunity to become a better self by the day. We thus support the continuing education of our staff, seek to learn as much as possible during projects, and share knowledge whenever we are requested to do so.
- Networking, because we believe success always involves more than one individual. Connected people have access to a wider range of resources and better support.
